We reported on the battle over government funding.

After a push from President-elect Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican Party has eliminated much of the issue. Presented a neat bill that included disaster relief and funded the government through March.

But as we previously reported, the bill failed. So Speaker Mike Johnson needs to come up with a Plan C.

Thirty-eight Republicans voted no, as did most Democrats.

Musk placed the blame for the failure squarely on Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

The blame now clearly lies with the Democrats. If they wanted to survive the disaster relief without pork, there was their chance. So you can’t talk.

Vice President-elect JD Vance responded quite sharply.

Graphic Language Warning:

The Democrats just voted to shut down the government even though we had a neat CR because they didn’t want to give the President any leverage to negotiate during his first term or the first year of his novel term. And second, because they would rather shut down the government and fight for global censorship bullshit. They asked for closure and I think that’s exactly what they’re going to get

Now Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) gave the reason why some Republicans voted no.

It’s not the number of pages that matters, but rather the content of those pages.

This CR had the same level of spending today as yesterday, but the debt ceiling was suspended, meaning there was no ceiling on the debt. I don’t trust Congress or the administration to spend responsibly and without limits.

I cannot in good conscience vote to maintain Joe Biden’s spending levels months into Trump’s presidency.

If we had done a very tiny CR that only took us through January 20th, or if we had voted on individual issues on the spending measures in the bill, there probably would have been a lot more support.

We have $36 trillion in debt. We have to do this right. It’s now or never.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who voted no, wants a bill for each line item.
