Almost from the outset of Kamala Harris’ rise to become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, which she “won” without a single presidential primary, we were reliably informed that it would be a “vibes-based” election.
It was an offensive narrative that the MSM spread, highlighting such negligible things as Harris’ eating and walking habits, even as many Americans continued to struggle to make ends meet and put food on their own tables, which the Biden -Harris economics.
“If you go with the mood, it’s a mood election!” CNN anchor Kasie Hunt declared with a straight face during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in behind schedule August, seemingly endorsing Harris’ calculated campaign strategy of avoiding the media.

As it turns out, for some behind schedule voters, “vibes” actually played a role in deciding who they would vote for — and that, ironically, benefited President-elect Donald Trump more than Harris. The New York Times interviewed some of them with whom they stayed in touch for months and these were a some of the answers given:
I voted for Donald Trump. I decided after Kamala continued: “Call her dad.”
[…]
I voted for Trump and made that decision the same day the mainstream media went into meltdown after the Madison Square Garden rally. I also saw a Democrat ad about abortion misinformation that really upset me. I said, “You know what? I will vote for Trump. Everyone hates him. They lie about pregnancies. Let’s just do it.”
[…]
I can’t believe it, but in the end I voted for Donald Trump. I made that decision when I saw it JD Vance’s interview with the New York Times. He is the future of the Republican Party. I vote more for Vance than Trump.
[…]
I shocked myself and voted for Trump. Nobody tells my family. I was so impressed with JD Vance, the way he acted and how normal he seemed. I think I have become radicalized on the issue of men’s and women’s sports. The ad said: “Kamala represents she/her. “Trump represents you,” that was so convincing. While Trump is crazy, he somehow represented normality to me.
Another said he voted for Trump after his appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast. “He just seemed more normal than the other side,” the voter said, according to the Times.
These answers greatly disturbed “Majority Report” co-host and “Young Turks” alum Emma Vigeland, among others:

And she wasn’t the only one. Natalie Jackson, the vice president of the Democratically Polling and polling group GQR said in so many words that this is supposedly the “troubling” reality of how people make decisions about who to vote for:
As I said before, it is troubling for many people to learn how voters really make decisions. People want the fantasy of a fully rational, informed electorate according to their own views, and that simply doesn’t exist. https://t.co/GWSzvBuTVW

However, this was a more realistic view of voters’ responses:
Traditional media outlets like the NYT warned that the public would be less informed if they were disrupted. The following statements from Verbatim prove that the opposite is true: today’s voters are better informed, rely on diverse sources and can see through the manipulative tactics that media and campaigns once relied on. https://t.co/qXJfVAJjZn

On the one hand, I have to admit that I laughed while reading it the reactions from the Very Online Left to the Times article. I mean, they complained that undecided voters were going in the opposite direction, based in part on a tactic that the left and its allies in the mainstream media were cheering when they thought it benefited their side.
On the other hand, it made me enraged that the answers implied that they thought voters were “uninformed.” Why? Because they chose Trump and not Kamala Harris?
And let’s face it, these voters were probably like many others in this country – they have issues they care about, but perhaps aren’t political junkies like many of us, and made Harris look ridiculous on “Call Her.” making the “Daddy” podcast, Trump coming across as more “normal” than Harris, and JD Vance impressing her in interviews are all deciding factors. This is neither empty nor “uninformed.”
I guess what makes a voter “informed” is the belief that Lady Gaga is singing at an election night concert or something. Or Oprah Winfrey bizarrely claiming without evidence that people who don’t vote for Kamala Harris may never get the chance to vote again.
Just crazy. We are nine days after Election Day and these people still have learned absolutely nothing. If they keep it up (and we should certainly hope they do), the 2024 Trump Red Wave will look comparatively modest in the 2026 midterm elections.
