Democrats will never, ever get over the fact that Gov. Glenn Youngkin won when he shouldn’t have, but that’s just one of the reasons they’re going after him now because he had the courage to pristine up Virginia’s voter rolls Non-citizens. The other reason is abundantly clear: Virginia is much closer than it should be, and Democrats are panicking. And if Democrats panic, the judiciary will surely follow.
As RedState reported, the Biden-Harris Justice Department is pursuing a last-minute lawsuit against Youngkin over the “purge” of Virginia’s voter rolls of non-citizens; As our own Becca Lower put it: “It’s just the latest example of states trying to conduct free and fair elections and the Biden administration standing in their way.” Sounds about right.
Here are some critical facts to note. First, the potential voters in question here are people who self-identify as non-citizens and check the appropriate box. Second, there is a failsafe to ensure that people who check the box incorrectly can still vote. Finally, and this is where it gets captivating, this is a law signed by a Democratic governor, enacted by Democratic and Republican governors, and approved by the DOJ.
You can see why Glenn Youngkin wonders if maybe, just maybe, there’s something else at play here.
Youngkin appeared on Fox News and on Sunday explained the host situation by Shannon Bream:
To be clear, this is not a purge, but is based on a law signed into law in 2006 by then-Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine.
It starts with the basic premise: If someone comes into one of our DMVs and claims to be a non-citizen and then ends up on the voter rolls – intentionally or accidentally – we go through… an individual process based on that person’s self-identification person as a non-citizen and gives them fourteen days to confirm that they are a citizen. And if not, they disappear from the voter rolls.
And by the way, they have one last guarantee: you can register and cast a provisional vote on the same day.
Youngkin stated that the law is “fully consistent with the U.S. Constitution, the Virginia Constitution and Virginia law.” That’s not all; said the governor: “We found out in 2006 that the then Department of Justice actually endorsed this law and said, ‘Not only is it…constitutional, but we’ve vetted it thoroughly, and that’s what we’re doing.'” Okay, if you continue with it.”
Hmm, what’s going on here? Why would the DOJ suddenly have a problem with this law? It’s too close for comfort for Democrats in Virginia, as Youngkin concluded:
And now, 25 days before the election, the Justice Department decides to file suit after eighteen years of this law in effect – administered by Democratic and Republican governors – and that’s why I believe Americans and Virginians I wonder, what the Justice Department is planning to do. It’s been in effect for eighteen years, it’s commonly used by Republican and Democratic governors, and now, all of a sudden, when things get tight in Virginia, a lawsuit is being filed against the Commonwealth of Virginia while we’re trying to make sure citizens vote, not non-citizens.
Worth a look:
It has been 18 years since then-Governor Tim Kaine signed this law into law, and now we learn that it was done with the express approval of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division. Ensuring that non-citizens are not included in Virginia’s voter rolls is not a partisan issue – it is constitutional to… pic.twitter.com/B721fVJkqp

Democrats have good reason to panic. They long thought they owned Virginia, with a long line of Democratic governors and senators, but Youngkin broke their stronghold in 2021 with his victory over Democrat Terry McAuliffe. It wears them down that Glenn Youngkin won, so he automatically became the enemy.
Add to that the fact that early voting numbers in Virginia in 2024 show GOP supporters turning out in larger numbers than in previous election cycles. As we reported last week: “Experts would expect to see that the Democrats have a lead of around 30 percent at this point, but only have an 11.3 percent lead.
Of course, that doesn’t mean Republicans are on track to win in Virginia, but it’s clearly closer than Democrats would like. Let’s face it: If Kamala Harris and the Democrats falter in Virginia, home to many federal government workers, it’s a sign that the campaign is in grave trouble. Unfortunately for them, Glenn Youngkin won’t stand by while they try to manipulate things in their favor with the assist of an armed Justice Department.
