On Monday, Kamala Harris held a “town hall meeting” with Liz Cheney. Things started badly after host Maria Shriver came out and told the audience that all the questions were “predetermined.” But while my initial report on the event focused on the general aspects of how foolish it was for Harris’ campaign to support Cheney, the vice president’s failures expanded previous discussions of political strategy.

Harris, for example, has a strange penchant for acting out, and one moment she caught the attention of the Trump campaign.

Let me explain what’s happening there. Harris has “theater kid syndrome.” Because she is such a ridiculously inauthentic politician, molded and run by a group of henchmen, she tends to overdo it. When she steps in front of the camera, she’s playing a role, and because she’s a terrible actress, it’s immediately apparent to anyone watching her. Additionally, Harris is unable to stay in character, causing her to laugh indiscriminately at things that aren’t amusing.
This means that when the vice president tries to remain sedate, she comes across as a lame school teacher. Listen to the tempo and tone of this next clip and you’ll understand exactly what I’m talking about.
HARRIS: Donald Trump is a dubious man in many ways.
(dramatic pause)
HARRIS: But the consequences of being president of the United States are brutally sedate. There are things he says that will be the subject of skits, laughter and jokes.
It’s immediately apparent that Harris was rehearsing these answers verbatim since she already knew the questions, which was confirmed by Shriver’s admission to the audience. Anyone who speaks publicly knows this is usually a bad idea. Sure, a professional actor might be able to do this, but on the whole, your average politician will sound much more relatable and legitimate if he speaks in broad strokes rather than single, canned lines. There are times when reading a teleprompter speech works, but a “town hall” is not that time.

However, if you’ve noticed that Liz Cheney’s body language is a bit off during Harris’ answers, it only gets worse as the event drags on.
Watch Liz’s face…she thinks Kamala is an idiot, but it’s too delayed now. She’s totally into it. pic.twitter.com/iXKH6UTmFG

Cheney did everything but roll his eyes during this “town hall.” She looked bored, often staring into space and randomly looking away during Harris’s answers. She knew what she was hearing, and with each vague, overproduced answer, the former congresswoman saw her prospects dwindle a little more. Whatever administration position Harris Cheney has promised, the chances of it becoming a reality are rapidly diminishing.
However, it is too delayed for Cheney. She’s chosen this path and there’s a good chance she’ll suffer one final humiliation in a few weeks. This couldn’t happen to a better person.
