On Thursday, Democratic New York Mayor Eric Adams held a press conference to describe his meeting with modern border czar Tom “The Hammer” Homan and answer questions about the meeting. Some of Mayor Adams’ answers suggested that he is one of the more sensible Democrats on this issue.

Admittedly, that doesn’t set the bar very high. But Adams may be showing early signs of being outwitted.

In one excerpt, he described a shocking number of illegal immigrant children we have can’t find:

Adams said:

We have 500,000 children who have sponsors in this country that we cannot find. We can’t find her. We don’t know if they’re doing child labor, we don’t know if they’re committing sex crimes, we don’t know if they’re being exploited by 500,000 children. There is a certain level of hypocrisy that everyone says, “We want to protect everyone,” except innocent people who are victims of crime and children.

He continued:

I want to… support and protect children and innocent people who are victims of crime. And for those who don’t understand that, it’s not up to me to try to convince them. I know what my job is, what my goal is, and I knew that when I ran for mayor and became mayor. Safety is everything to me. 500,000 children, we don’t know where they are right now.

Mayor Adams also announced his intention to work with the future border czar, indicating that he would only work to remove illegal aliens who had committed crimes, although it was not clear whether he would work exclusively within New York City’s borders or within the borders of New York City meant the countries of origin of illegal immigrants.

Tom Homan is using salty language to tell Chicagoans that their city will be “ground zero” for mass deportations

At one point, Adams took an almost Trumpian stance shot at the assembled media:

Hizzoner said:

I’ll answer a few questions. And then I go. It doesn’t matter what I answer anyway, you already have your preconceived thoughts.

This statement has an almost republican ring to it.

Although Mayor Adams clearly has some problems with the New York press, it is extremely unlikely that he will change his party affiliation. It’s complex for someone with two IQ points not to feel even a little overwhelmed on this matter, considering that there are half a million children whose whereabouts are unknown. But Adams, when describing the influx of illegal immigrants into this city, still insists on the term “undocumented” when describing people who are in the country illegally; That’s like calling a bank robbery an “undocumented withdrawal,” so we shouldn’t expect to see him speaking at CPAC any time soon.

Nevertheless, at least on this issue, he is far ahead of most of his Democratic colleagues. It will be compelling all around to see what, if anything, Tom “The Hammer” Homan has to say about this meeting.
