As has often been said, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) is a national treasure, and he proves that time and again with his work on the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he has regularly exposed the ignorance and left-wing activism of some of Joe Biden’s judicial nominees, sometimes just by asking them basic questions about the rule of law.
In one case, one of the nominees – Spokane County Superior Court Judge Charnelle Bjelkengren – asked that her name be withdrawn from the retrial after Kennedy embarrassed her with questions about the Constitution.

Fortunately for us – and America – Kennedy is still doing his thing, as was evident in his interview with two other Biden Judicial candidatesNashville employment lawyer Karla Campbell and Maine Supreme Court Justice Julia Lipez.
Campbell is Biden’s nominee for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. After repeatedly denying Kennedy’s accusation that she lied to other Republicans on the committee about her representation of a left-wing activist group called Workers’ Dignity (which Texas Senator Ted Cruz called an “openly Marxist organization”), Campbell admitted that she had indeed been involved with the group in the early days.
Here is what she said at another point during the hearing:
“I was on an advisory board that helped build and launch what was then planned as a nonprofit workers’ rights organization,” she told lawmakers, adding that she had not been involved with the group recently because “they have veered into the political sphere instead of staying true to their original mission of supporting workers.”
Lipez is Biden’s nominee for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit, and it was Kennedy’s questioning in a child sex abuse case that gave modern meaning to the word “degraded” as she dodged and evaded questions about her statements about the child molester and her decision to convict him:
A monster abused 4 and 9 year venerable girls.
Lipez described him as “a person who has a lot of good in him” and suspended half of his sentence so that he only had to spend six years behind bars.

Here is what else Lipez said of the perpetrator Michael T. Smith at the time:
During a sentencing hearing in March 2023, Lipez reduced Smith’s 12-year sentence to 6 years and praised him as a “good” person.
“People are complicated,” Lipez said during the hearing. “I’ve honestly been given very little insight into how or why this happened. What I can say is that this is a very tragic situation where a person who has a lot of good in him did something very reprehensible to two young children.”
The sentence reduction came after Smith’s newborn victims told the judge about the years of suffering the abuse had caused them. They suffered from night terrors, loss of appetite and flashbacks, after for the Sun Journal.
Judges who are supple on crime are the absolute last thing we need in this country, and that is even more true for any judge who is supple on sentencing in sexual abuse cases, especially those involving minors. It says a lot about Joe Biden—and none of it is good—that he nominated a candidate like Lipez in particular, and it speaks volumes about Kennedy, Cruz, and the other Republican senators who exposed her record for what it is.
