UP IN THE MORNING

WATCH: Kamala’s bad reaction to loss – Supporters’ faces tell the story

Perhaps the icing on the cake of the evening was that the bogus Kamala HQ account stopped posting and went mute early in the night. Breaking 911 wondered if they had been fired because they hadn’t called in for hours.

Election night highlights: the fun, the joy and the media meltdowns

I didn’t need another excuse to vote for Trump, but it sure is fun to watch the media when they’re incensed.

Trump speaks humbly to his supporters at headquarters after his victory on election night

The speech to supporters capped a remarkable day in our country’s political history, but it also had a personal side.

How many times can a youthful man cast his first presidential vote…for his father?

WHAT’S UP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

Phew. Where should I start? Congratulations to Deb Fischer in Nebraska, who retained her Senate seat for the GOP; to Ted Cruz for holding out in Texas (despite concerns expressed by some when early vote totals appeared to be in favor of Democrat Colin Allred); to Bernie Moreno in Ohio, Tim Sheehy in Montana and Jim Justice in West Virginia for pickup. I would have liked to see Hung Cao pick Virginia for the GOP, but unfortunately the commonwealth will again/still have Senator Tim Kaine. We’re still waiting with our fingers crossed for Dave McCormick in Pennsylvania and Sam Brown in Nevada to cross the finish line. (We will receive these calls as soon as DDHQ makes them.)

While the Senate is a solid win for the GOP, we’re still waiting for the final word on the House — even though it looks promising. I was sorry Lily Williams couldn’t upset Maggie Goodlander in New Hampshire.

All in all, a damn good night for the GOP. I’ll take it.

What’s going on in the White House?

Not Joe Biden (probably). There is nothing on the president’s schedule for Wednesday. I expect we will see at least a statement from him at some point today. I would think.

Postmortem

Well, he did it. I wasn’t sure if he would do that. After getting over my fears that he might run again (not because I don’t agree with most of his policies, but just because of all the baggage that comes with it – and much of it is not his fault, but rather the extraordinarily negative). (and sometimes clumsy reaction to him), I was all in. Given the alternative, it was an simple decision. Whether it was Biden or Harris, the thought of another four years in this morass was pretty confident Trump could win because none of the Democratic candidates were robust candidates. But I, like many others, am still recovering from the shock of 2020. So there were…one of the things What Trump did this time, which I was pretty sure I understood, was venture into deep blue territory to hold rallies and campaign events. Some questioned the wisdom of this statement. I didn’t do it. I knew exactly what he was doing: He wanted to win the popular vote almost as much, if not more, than the Electoral College. I’m glad he could. I’m also cheerful for the “Team of Rivals” he has put together. They will obviously face enormous headwinds, but I’m excited to see what they can do.

A gigantic thank you to Michael Whatley, Lara Trump, and the RNC and their huge team of lawyers (including Harmeet Dhillon), poll watchers, and other volunteers for being so proactive this time around voting irregularities as they occurred. Kudos to them for the solid offense. (And kudos to our own Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Van Laar for helping push Ronna McDaniel out – this may have turned out to be bigger than we even imagined.)

Trump saw our coverage and then called on RNC Chairman McDaniel to resign

Kudos also to Scott Presler for doing his best to bring Pennsylvania home. This man deserves a vacation!

As for Vice President Kamala Harris, well, on one level I almost feel sorry for her. Almost. She was somehow put in an impossible situation. But…she was involved in it too. I suspect that the next two months will not be particularly pleasant for her. But I won’t be unhappy to see her and second (not) gentleman Dougie ride off into the sunset.

Full court press…

The gigantic question now is: What will happen to all the legal battle against Trump? We are still awaiting the New York Court of Appeals decision on his civil fraud case. (Theoretically, that could be as soon as tomorrow – I know, I know, I keep promising.) There is the appeal in the classified documents case being heard in the 11th Circuit, several appeals (E. Jean Carroll and some ongoing ones Manhattan battles (Alvin Bragg case) pending in the Second Circuit, the sentencing that awaits him on November 18th from Judge Merchan, the indictment of Jack Smith over the 2020 election in DC, and the ongoing fight over the scope of immunity as well as the Fani Willis/Fulton County case. It will be fun to watch how this all unfolds.

And… what will happen to Hunter Biden? He is scheduled to be sentenced in December for his firearms conviction and his tax debt plea. Does Joe forgive him on the way out the door? (Why shouldn’t he?)

Morning rumination

Despite some congressional races that didn’t go the way I would have liked, Tuesday was a solid win across the board – except here in Missouri. Oh, the Republicans won all the statewide offices, as expected. But Missouri passed Amendment 3, which now enshrines abortion until “fetal viability” in our Constitution, which is unclear. I am heartbroken about this. Here is my resolution this early morning after the election: I will do everything I can to assist Missouri right this wrong. I don’t know what that looks like yet. But I’ll find out.

I would also like to take a moment to thank you, our faithful readers, for spending this unforgettable evening and early morning with us. They make what we do here worthwhile. Much appreciated!
