Good morning and welcome to RedState’s Morning Minute – a quick look at what stories are trending right now and a look ahead to what the day might bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to support you start your day.
UP IN THE MORNING
Scott Jennings blasts critics of Pete Hegseth and tears up current Pentagon leadership
Thompson notes that Hegseth pulls no punches in his examination of the cultural decay plaguing the military. Will he be the one to cleanse this rot?
Court destroys 50 years of environmental law and lets Trump’s EPA build on the ashes
The silver lining is that Trump’s EPA, under Lee Zeldin (see We Have Another Trump Cabinet Pick: Lee Zeldin Gets the Nod), will make the first attempt to overhaul useless and high-priced regulations.
Hang it in the Louvre: Nancy Pelosi gives an update on how she feels after Trump’s victory
Be a normal person and ride off into the sunset. Spend some time with your grandchildren. Stop strolling around the halls of Congress like a demented aged nutter muttering about how terrible things are. There are people all over the country who wish they could retire with a $15,000 refrigerator full of designer ice cream.
WHAT’S UPCOMING?
Today on Capitol Hill…
Today is a substantial day on the Hill – the Senate will take its leadership vote on Wednesday. President-elect Donald Trump will visit House Republicans before heading to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. might. Could he also stop by the GOP conference meeting? We’ll find out soon.
What’s going on in the White House?
President Joe Biden starts the morning with First Lady Jill, speaking at the Classroom to Career Summit. He will then meet with his predecessor and successor, President-elect Trump, in the behind schedule morning. Won’t that be amusing?
Full court press…
It occurs to me that this section might also become quieter in the coming weeks, given the way Trump’s legal affairs are going. On Tuesday, Judge Juan Merchan postponed his decision on the issue of presidential immunity in the Manhattan Business Records case. The recent date for this is now next Tuesday, November 19th, with the sentencing initially scheduled for the following Tuesday.
We are still awaiting the appeal ruling in Letitia James’ civil fraud case. Every day …
The trial of Daniel Penny continues in Manhattan. Will justice be served? Based on previous reporting, it seems more likely that the court will be appealed.
Morning rumination
The disagreements that some have about Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy taking over the leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency are great. A) It is not a government agency; B) It has an expiration date. Could it be a swing and a miss? Secure. But I’m here because of the effort. For me, it’s “Dave” in the 21st century. Let’s see what they can do.
