West Virginia U.S. Senator Jim Justice has taken office

WASHINGTON, DC (WOWK) – West Virginia now has a recent senator representing the state on Capitol Hill. Senator Jim Justice (R-WV) was officially sworn in on Tuesday in Washington, DC

Justice is one of 52 Republican senators in the 119th Congress, replacing former Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV), who did not run for re-election. U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) accompanied him during the major transition.

The now-former governor’s swearing-in ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on January 3, but he postponed his own ceremony until after Patrick Morrisey had been sworn in as West Virginia’s recent governor.

Had Justice not delayed the Senate transition, West Virginia would have had four governors in less than two weeks, as the former West Virginia Senate President would have assumed the role until January 8, when the recent WV Senate President, Randy Smith, who would have taken over until Morrisey’s inauguration on January 13th.
