RedState reported extensively on Tuesday’s Senate confirmation hearings to confirm Donald Trump’s pick for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth. The event was made perceptible to the country and the world and it was a great day.
This of course got me thinking about what I had seen and it got me thinking.
What the hell are some of these yahoos thinking?
I’ll start with a story that I read correctly HERE about one of Michigan’s distinguished senators and his mindset, or lack thereof.
Hegseth said in his role at a veterans organization, he oversaw about 100 full-time employees and thousands of volunteers.
“Not nearly as big as the Defense Department, I’ll admit that,” Hegseth said [Democrat Sen. Gary] Peters.
“Not even close to a mid-sized company in America,” the senator added.
In his closing remarks Tuesday, Peters suggested that Hegseth did not win his vote.
“You have not convinced me that you are capable of taking on this enormous responsibility in a complex organization and have little or no significant management experience,” Peters told Hegseth.
“Senator, I am grateful to be hired by one of the most successful CEOs in American history should I be confirmed,” Hegseth responded, referring to Trump.
Then the chairman of the esteemed committee landed this comment…
After Peters’ comments, Mississippi Republican Committee Chairman Roger Wicker told Hegseth that he appeared to have supervised “far more people” than the average U.S. senator oversees.
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, the Republican senator from Oklahoma, addressed Peters’ questioning by saying Mullin wouldn’t hire some of his Senate colleagues.
“There’s a lot of talk about talking about qualifications and then whether we hire him if we’re the board,” Mullin said. “But there are a lot of senators here that I wouldn’t have on my board.”
Senator Peters’ best days as an elected official were over before he officially took office, so I never expected much from him.
As my colleague Strieff reported, the nonsensical discussions of people who would NEVER vote for someone Donald Trump praised, let alone hire for a position, didn’t stop there. Pete Hegseth brings his best and gets the job done.
And Fauxcahontas (D-MA) has managed to make herself the target of her own career.
Warren: “You’re absolutely certain that every general in office should not go directly into the defense industry for 10 years, but you’re not willing to make the same promise?”
Hegseth: “I’m not a general, Senator.”
Be sure to read Streiff’s article above and all of the coverage of these hearings here at RedState.
But as Trump Confusion Syndrome was clearly on display Tuesday, I wondered why Democrats are so concerned about such issues now when…
Drinking alcohol, having extramarital affairs, or a host of other things they found offensive would make the former Senate LÖW (Lie) from the not-so-great state of Massachusetts, the overdue Ted Kennedy, qualified for any job, who needs confirmation in the Senate?
I won’t even mention the obvious problem or concern Ted Kennedy had: He left a party, possibly drunk, then drove off a bridge and left his passenger to drown without calling authorities for support until the next morning.
Of course, since his older brothers were tragically murdered, he was politically granted the grace of forgiveness for making such terrible mistakes in his grief.
Does anyone believe that a Democrat who made a low-cost attack on Pete Hegseth yesterday would ever have the courage to mention any of the sins Ted Kennedy committed in his 40-plus years in public life if he came back to life? and would have been nominated for any position? ?
No.
These hearings have become commercials for elected officials looking for their YouTube or TikTok hits. They let employees find little facts with which to address nominees, and the real questions needed to see whether these people are qualified to lead the departments they were tapped to lead are lost.
The circus that Senate Democrats staged yesterday was their last chance to stop Hegseth from winning confirmation to become the nation’s next defense secretary. I’m pretty sure they failed and looked like clowns and we should all be ashamed of that.
If you think otherwise, I have a bridge I can sell you super low-cost in Chappaquiddick.
Democrats would hate that comment, but if Kennedy had an “R” after his name or was a friend of Trump’s, that would have been fair game.
