On Monday, Russia bombed Kyiv They struck several locations across the city during rush hour. They deliberately hit Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital, which treats some of the country’s most grave children, including those with cancer.
Across the city, at least 36 people are dead and 137 injured, but rescue workers are still trying to clear the rubble. It’s unclear how many children are lying under the destruction at the children’s hospital. It’s the most tragic scenario imaginable, and it was perpetrated in broad daylight by monsters who deliberately targeted defenseless children and families.
Some of the doctors were operating on children when the strike began. Before they could take cover, they had to try to operate on the adolescent, defenseless patients in terrible conditions. It is unimaginable.
Iryna Filimonova, a senior nurse in the pediatric urology department, told CNN that an operation on a two-year-old was in progress at the time of the attack.
“The lights went out, everything was off. We took out the instruments and shone flashlights. Everything was quickly stitched up,” Filimonova said. “The baby was taken to the shelter. I immediately ran to help clear the debris. Some of my fellow nurses who worked in the operating rooms and some doctors were injured by broken glass. Our department was destroyed.”
Russia has brazenly committed a gruesome war crime against innocent civilians and it is being treated as if it is just another day in the Ukraine conflict. Where are the protests? The chants? The flag burning? The Russians are real colonizers committing actual crimes against humanity. This is a real a reason that justice seekers should embrace, but they are too busy manipulating Israel to care.
In October 2023, when the war had just started, Israel was accused of bombing Al-Alhi Hospital. When it turned out that this was not the case, there was no apology.
It has been proven that Hamas uses hospitals as bases, undermining the neutrality of humanitarian institutions. Hostages have been held in hospitals. Weapons and fighters have been found in hospitals. And yet Israel is blamed, no matter how the story turns out. Putin knows the double standards and continues to do worse things than those Israel is accused of, but for which it is not held accountable.
Trump said during the debate with Biden that he would resolve the conflict between Ukraine and Russia within 24 hours. While he did not provide details, he has expressed interest in cutting aid to Ukraine and reportedly possibly delaying the country’s admission to NATO. He also claimed that if the U.S. had had a stronger president, Russia would not have been so bold as to invade Ukraine. first.
“If we had a real president, a president who knew what was going on – who Putin respected … then he would never have attacked Ukraine.”
He’s not wrong. Biden does not instill fear in our enemies. In fact, Biden is considered the worst president in terms of foreign policy we’ve ever had. Trump is a robust, common-sense leader who has achieved some historic international successes as president, including the Abraham Accords and significant progress with Kim Jong Un of North Korea. As president, he captured the world’s attention, and people knew to think twice before crossing him. In the case of Ukraine, Republicans must remember that it is essential for the U.S., as the leader of the Western world, to stand up to Russia. If Trump is re-elected (and it looks like he will be), Putin will know that he means business and that he will not tolerate any further continuation of this conflict. Hopefully, this will lead to a decisive solution for Ukraine and a restoration of its security so it can rebuild and heal.
