ROANE COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A Roane County Bridge has been dedicated in memory of a longtime public servant.
The West Virginia Department of Transportation and family members of the late Bob Ashley gathered Wednesday to dedicate the fresh Robert G. “Bob” Ashley Memorial Bridge. The fresh bridge is located on the Scott Miller Hill Bypass, which connects Spencer and Ripley.
Bob Ashley, the bridge’s namesake, died in May at the age of 70. A native of Roane County, he served as a delegate to the West Virginia Legislature for 31 years and was later elected a senator. Most recently, Ashley served as legislative liaison for Governor Jim Justice.
Ashley is survived by his wife, District Judge Anita Ashley, and two sons.
