Phoenix (AP) -Dja Foxx celebrated her April birthday in a way that most 25 year olds do not do. The additional candle meant that she was now entitled to represent Arizona in the congress, and Foxx marked the event with a fundraiser.

It is part of a far -reaching group of adolescent democratic candidates who replace many for older incumbents who have become uneasy that they come to their turn to lead their party back to power.

After a loss of 2024, they say that the party urgently needs rebranding – and adolescent guides should be taxed.

In Southarizona on Tuesday, Foxx is one of several Democrats who step on a deep blue fit that remains free due to the death of Rep. Raúl Grijalva, a long -time political power broker in Tucson. He had become one of the most high -ranking legislators on the Capitol Hill for over two decades. Grijalva’s daughter Adelita is one of the competitors, and three Republicans compete in the GOP primary school.

But the push for younger managers will not end there. The most critical challengers have already emerged in states such as California and Indiana in the next year in states such as California and Indiana.

In Georgia, for example, 80-year-old Democratic MP David Scott’s heritage could end with a primary school that he is expected. This has the challenger with his refusal to step aside, despite years of concern about his withering health and scarce public appearances. The area code was almost a year after the former President Joe Biden from the election race of 2024 had expired from the election race from 2024 in the middle of his age.

Challenging well -networked candidates can be discouraging, but progressive managers say that the moment requires urgency.

“The implementation of the torch implies that the managers are handing them over,” said Amanda Litman, head of a group called Run for something that progressive adolescent candidates bare. “What we see is that the new generation takes the flashlight. They don’t wait for it to be passed.”

Online campaign

Many boomers and gene z -candidates have largely abandoned the time-honored playbook of millions of millions for TV advertisements in favor of TikTok and social media. But it is a pivot point that older political hands from an older game book would recognize: to meet voters where they are.

Foxx, a digital strategist, led the influencer strategy for the presidential campaign of Kamala Harris 2020. On Tiktok, she speaks with almost 400,000 supporters and says that she is the first woman of our generation to be chosen in the congress. In 2022, Florida voters elected the first congress member of the generation – the democratic MP Maxwell Frost. The progressive caucus pac of the congress, which granted the co-chair from Frost Adelita Grijalva.

Foxx has banned the popular gene z -internet of the District tour “Crashout or Congress”.

“Do you have the feeling that you are about to break out? Be honest,” said Foxx.

Foxx said her campaign shot around one corner after a primary debate at the end of May when some clips put on the eyes of millions and contributed to achieving a fundraiser.

If Scott is looking for another term in his suburb of Atlanta in Atlanta, he will face several candidates in the democratic primary school next May: microbiologist and state member of Jasmine Clark, 42; State Senator Emanuel Jones, 66; and 33-year-old Everton Blair, former chairman of the state’s largest school district. Scott’s campaign did not respond to inquiries for an interview.

Clark collected 7,000 Tikkok supporters after a popular influencer released them. It occasionally occurs with solutions for the problems of people at Nextdoor and is sometimes recognized as a podcast host instead of a state representative. She says that Republicans did a better job with her news when saturated with social media.

“Instead of looking at the Republicans and waking them up with their fingers, we were able to take some lessons from them,” she said.

Message or messenger?

The voters were put down by high living costs, said Clark, but Republicans, not Democrats, were those who have told people that their pain is real – although Democrats have better ideas to fix things.

Blair agreed that Democrats had better political regulations for the management of the economic concerns of the voters, but he said that too many long -term legislators had suppressed the party’s ability to convey this message. He said that President Donald Trump fattened the billionaires of the billionaires, but the voters with low and medium -sized incomes are “from the American dream”.

“We have an incumbent who just doesn’t do the job and we need a better fighter,” said Blair. “The missions are just too high.”

Young people grew up in a political climate that is dominated by algorithms, said 21-year-old Akbar Ali, first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party in Gwinnett County, in which part of the Scott district lives. This gives them an integrated understanding of how information spreads today, he said, but did not replace the range of voters of all ages on site.

He said Scott’s physical absence could be felt in the congress in both the community and as a voice.

“Many people are annoyed at the national level because we cannot break back with enough strength.” he said.

Adelita Grijalva bears a well -known name in Tucson and is considered the leader. For Foxx, Grijalva benefits from her last name “Erbe”.

Grijalva, who received several confirmations, including the Democratic US MP Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the independent US senator Bernie Sanders, has pushed back. She said she put her own references on the table. Her father was progressive and anti -establishment, and she said she was.

But Foxx, who personally benefits from some government programs that the Trump administration has taken up or tried to Slash, said that the Democrats have to do more to achieve recent voters.

“We bring people into this party, into this democracy, who felt exuberant-in large and whole young people and workers of the working class,” said Foxx.

A positive vision

In New York City, the 33-year-old Zohran Mamdani recently won the mayor’s race with an bullish campaign, which was strongly based on Tiktok and emphasized recent ways to find the life of urban life more affordable.

At a time when so many adolescent people doubt that they are ever better than their parents, they are increasingly ready to give pragmatism for courageous political platforms, said David Hogg.

Hogg was removed from his leadership role with the Democratic National Committee, in which his election understood the rules of the party. His decision not to run again was followed by his push of suppressing long -time Democrats in unthreatening congress seats. He has not withdrawn from his vow to primary “sleeping Demel Democrats” with fresher faces.

People of all ages want a fighter who understands what it is about when Trump Medicaid and other programs to whom millions of Americans rely on, said Hogg. That is why his political action committee we deserve has approved Foxx.

Young voters have been the key to democratic victories in recent years, but some swung to the right when Trump made profits in 2024. Hogg said he was looking for candidates to regain them by talking about how change happens.

Older candidates can do that too, he said, but for good or bad adolescent people are not yet “exhausted” by politics.

“At this dark moment we people need a general feeling of hope than crazy that can sometimes feel,” said Hogg. “To believe that things may not be screwed up as now forever.”
